We are just over a month away from the long-awaited launch of Wild monster hunter. As is the case with most games as their release date approaches, we’re starting to see more new things to get us excited about with Wilds.
The biggest draw of a Monster Hunter game is, of course, the monsters. Thanks to IGN, January will bring us new looks at many of the cute (and scary) critters we’ll face in the full game.

January’s cover story begins with two crisp 4K videos showing fights against Ajarakan and Rompopolo. The two inhabit the Oilwell Basin area of the game, which is an area we haven’t seen in previous images.
It’s unclear if the game was captured on PC or PS5/Pro, but the performance does It seems smoother than last year’s beta. Still, considering how difficult the beta was and the recently announced GPUs from Nvidia and AMD, upgrading your PC for Wilds doesn’t seem like the worst idea in the world.
Ajarakan is the fire lover and monkey bar enjoyer you may have seen in some of the Wilds trailers. This video offers a deeper look at his nest and some of the antics he gets up to when really challenged. The hunter here has a sword and a shield.
Ajarakan begins the fight covered in scales and gradually removes them to reveal his fiery nature. This is where things get more interesting, as their physical attacks become infused with molten lava and become more aggressive.
One of the arenas you can lure the monster into has a trap you can activate that, if you time it correctly, could cause significant damage; something like a punch in the face. The hunter switches to the bow mid-fight, which actually comes in handy when the monster starts to rely more on projectiles.

The second video shows the hunter chasing Rompopolo, the wyvern with different pustules on its body. Rompopolo relies more on making the environment around you dangerous, as it seems to lack the power of more physical monsters. Poison is clearly the main element here.
Expect to move around a lot while waiting for an opportunity, even if it’s a squishy looking monster to fool you into thinking it will be an easy hunt. We start with Sword and Shield again for this one, before switching to a Crossbow later on.
Since the two share the same environment, Ajarakan shows his face to confront Rompopolo, something that is always fun to witness. The latter, of course, cannot compete with the absolute power of the former, so he decides to reserve it.
